Cities In America - Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls is a city in America, located in Idaho state. It is in fact the largest city in eastern Idaho. Back ten years ago when the 2000 census was taken, the whole population of Idaho Falls was around 50,000. The census population survey that took place in 2008 (two years ago) has revealed that the metro population of Idaho Falls was one hundred and twenty three thousand. This makes it the third largest metro area in the state of Idaho.

As you would expect of a city of this size, Idaho has all the necessary facilities for day to day life. There is an airport for Idaho Falls that its residents use, called Idaho Falls Regional Airport. Perhaps Idaho Fall’s main claim to faim is the fact that it’s the home of the Idaho Falls Chukars (a minor league baseball team). The city is located next to Ammon in Idaho, and is basically a hub for all of eastern Idaho.

Now, I am sure you really want to know about the history of Idaho Falls. A timber bridge that was built on the Montana trail (across the Snake river), that the city was built around. The bridge was built by Matt Taylor. The bridge that was built was able to let migrators travel across. The bridge built also allowed farmers to move their cattle across to different regions. This same bridge is still standing and it’s the center of the city. The term ‘Idaho Falls’ for the city came about in the year 1891, because of the rapids in the Snake river around the city.

The worst thing that ever happened to Idaho Falls was the National Reactor Testing Station (NRTS), which was located to the west of Idaho Falls. This occurred in 1949. In 1961 there was a major accident when a nuclear rod controller was removed, causing a nuclear meltdown. Three people died that day. But what’s interesting is that the Idaho National Laboratory is a huge economic powerhouse, which employs well over eight thousand people to this day.

The vast majority of the population of Idaho Falls were farmers (or else involved in agriculture) before the Reactor Testing Station came open. After this, a lot of people got jobs at the Idaho National Laboratory. There were several layoffs that occurred in 1993. Industry and local business in Idaho Falls is going well. There are call centers, entertainment venues, restaurants, retail shops and more.

There are many small and large businesses that work in Idaho Falls, and many of them do well enough to make ends meet. The rising population is enough to make many companies profitable. You will be able to locate knowledgeable Falls dentists, experienced Idaho Falls lawyers and experienced Idaho Falls accountants without too much trouble. There are also doctors, plumbers, carpenters, landscapers and every other major service that you can think of. Now as you may imagine, a lot of small ‘mom and pop’ businesses that work in Idaho Falls that manage to stay in business have been around for a while, and it is really difficult to make a profit when you first start.

In conclusion I would most certainly encourage you to take a trip to Idaho Falls. The community and people there are really friendly, and the city is still just small enough to keep it peaceful. You can go there either to visit or to live in. Of course, if you want to live there, you should look at the real estate market first. The median house price in Idaho Falls is still really low at well under three hundred thousand dollars.
